Client/Employer:
Short Life Housing - Bristol Self Help Housing Association www.selfhelpha.co.uk
This community-based housing association set up in 1972 to make temporary use of empty properties for homeless people in Bristol and surrounding areas. Since its foundation, the Association has managed a pool of houses or all sizes and in all locations, available for short-term accommodation of homeless persons.
Key Project:
Short-Life Housing Repair
The Association’s programme involved the securing of short-term leases from public and private owners, and the repair of properties and their letting on short-term tenancies. The Association at any one time used around 100 properties. The Association employs a direct labour force, including many former tenants, to carry out repairs.
